NYSHIP covers New York State employees, retirees, and their dependents — plus employees of participating agencies and participating employers across Suffolk and Nassau. On Long Island, that’s a large and often underserved group.
We treat SUNY faculty and campus staff, Unified Court System employees and court officers, Department of Transportation and highway crews, state agency office staff working out of Hauppauge and the surrounding facilities, and clinical staff from state hospitals and psychiatric centers. We also see county and municipal employees enrolled through participating employers, retirees continuing their NYSHIP coverage, and covered spouses, domestic partners, and dependent children.
If your coverage is through NYSHIP — whether you’re active, retired, on COBRA, or on the Young Adult Option — your chiropractic and physical therapy benefits work the same way.

- We confirm your coverage and your copayment. You’ll know your exact out-of-pocket cost before your first visit. No surprises, no estimates.
- Come in for your evaluation. Your first visit includes a full history, a physical examination, and a discussion of what’s actually causing your symptoms — not just where they hurt.
- Begin a plan built around your benefit. We build your treatment schedule with your coverage in mind, so you get the most out of the benefit you’ve already paid for.
Under The Empire Plan, you generally do not need a physician referral to see a participating provider. Call us and we’ll confirm the specifics of your plan.
Does NYSHIP cover chiropractic care?
Yes. NYSHIP Empire Plan enrollees have coverage for chiropractic treatment through the Managed Physical Medicine Program, administered in partnership with Managed Physical Network (MPN). When you use an MPN network provider, you pay only your plan’s copayment per visit and the provider files your claim directly.
Is Long Island Integrated Health in-network for NYSHIP?

Do I need a referral to see a chiropractor with NYSHIP?
Generally, no. The Empire Plan allows you to see a participating provider without a referral. Requirements can vary by plan and group, so we recommend calling us so we can confirm your coverage details before you come in.
What will I pay per visit with NYSHIP?
When you see an MPN network provider, you pay your plan’s copayment for that visit — nothing more for covered services. Copayment amounts vary by plan year and bargaining unit. We verify your exact amount before your first appointment so there are no surprises.
What happens if I see a chiropractor who isn't in the MPN network?
You’ll pay significantly more. Non-network care under the Managed Physical Medicine Program is subject to an annual deductible and coinsurance, and you’ll typically need to submit your own claim forms. Confirming that a provider is an MPN network provider — not just that they accept UnitedHealthcare — is the most important question to ask.
Does NYSHIP cover physical therapy too?
Yes. Chiropractic treatment, physical therapy, and occupational therapy are all covered under the same Managed Physical Medicine Program. Because we provide both chiropractic care and physical therapy in one office, you can use both benefits without a separate referral to an outside facility.
How many chiropractic visits does NYSHIP cover?
