Does NYSHIP Cover Chiropractic Care?

Yes — NYSHIP Covers Chiropractic Care and Physical Therapy

Yes. NYSHIP covers chiropractic treatment for enrollees in The Empire Plan. Chiropractic care, physical therapy, and occupational therapy are covered together under the Managed Physical Medicine Program, which is administered in partnership with Managed Physical Network (MPN) and overseen by UnitedHealthcare.

This is the part most patients don’t realize: your chiropractic benefit does not run through the standard medical/surgical side of your plan. It runs through its own program with its own network. That means a provider can accept your UnitedHealthcare card and still not be an MPN network provider for chiropractic — leaving you with a very different bill than you expected.

When you see an MPN network provider, you pay only your plan’s copayment for each visit and the office files the claim for you. When you go outside the network without arrangements in place, you become responsible for an annual deductible and a percentage of the cost above it.

Long Island Integrated Health is an MPN network provider for NYSHIP Empire Plan members. You pay your copayment at the time of your visit. Nothing more, and no paperwork to chase down afterward.

One Office. Both Benefits.

Your Managed Physical Medicine benefit covers chiropractic treatment and physical therapy. Most practices are built to deliver one or the other, which means a referral, a new intake, a new commute, and a gap in your recovery right when momentum matters most.

Long Island Integrated Health is a multidisciplinary practice. Chiropractic care, physical therapy, acupuncture, massage therapy, and non-surgical spinal decompression all happen in the same building, coordinated by a team that talks to each other about your case.

For a NYSHIP member, that’s not just convenient. It’s the difference between an adjustment that relieves your pain today and a rehabilitation plan that keeps it from coming back next quarter.

  • Chiropractic care restores alignment and relieves acute pain
  • Physical therapy rebuilds the strength and mobility that keeps the problem from returning
  • Acupuncture and massage therapy support recovery between visits
  • Non-surgical spinal decompression targets disc-related pain without surgery

One team. One chart. One place to park.

What We Treat for NYSHIP Members

State employees on Long Island tend to come to us with a familiar set of problems — and they’re usually occupational. Long shifts on your feet. Long commutes on the LIE. Twelve-hour rotations. Years at a desk.

  • Lower back pain and sciatica
  • Neck pain, stiffness, and tension headaches
  • Herniated and bulging discs
  • Shoulder, hip, and knee pain
  • Work-related repetitive strain injuries
  • Post-surgical rehabilitation
  • Auto accident and whiplash injuries
  • Arthritis and chronic joint pain
  • Poor posture and desk-related pain
  • Balance issues and general mobility loss

If you’re not sure whether your condition qualifies, call us. We’ll tell you honestly — and if chiropractic isn’t the right answer, we’ll say so.

Who We Serve

Long Island’s State Workforce

NYSHIP covers New York State employees, retirees, and their dependents — plus employees of participating agencies and participating employers across Suffolk and Nassau. On Long Island, that’s a large and often underserved group.

We treat SUNY faculty and campus staff, Unified Court System employees and court officers, Department of Transportation and highway crews, state agency office staff working out of Hauppauge and the surrounding facilities, and clinical staff from state hospitals and psychiatric centers. We also see county and municipal employees enrolled through participating employers, retirees continuing their NYSHIP coverage, and covered spouses, domestic partners, and dependent children.

If your coverage is through NYSHIP — whether you’re active, retired, on COBRA, or on the Young Adult Option — your chiropractic and physical therapy benefits work the same way.

 Getting Started

Starting Care Is Simple

  1. Call or text us at (631) 738-8300. Tell us you’re a NYSHIP member. We’ll take your information and verify your Empire Plan benefits before you come in.
  2. We confirm your coverage and your copayment. You’ll know your exact out-of-pocket cost before your first visit. No surprises, no estimates.
  3. Come in for your evaluation. Your first visit includes a full history, a physical examination, and a discussion of what’s actually causing your symptoms — not just where they hurt.
  4. Begin a plan built around your benefit. We build your treatment schedule with your coverage in mind, so you get the most out of the benefit you’ve already paid for.

Under The Empire Plan, you generally do not need a physician referral to see a participating provider. Call us and we’ll confirm the specifics of your plan.

Does NYSHIP cover chiropractic care?

Yes. NYSHIP Empire Plan enrollees have coverage for chiropractic treatment through the Managed Physical Medicine Program, administered in partnership with Managed Physical Network (MPN). When you use an MPN network provider, you pay only your plan’s copayment per visit and the provider files your claim directly.

Is Long Island Integrated Health in-network for NYSHIP?

Yes. We are an MPN network provider for The Empire Plan and we accept NYSHIP for both chiropractic care and physical therapy. Call (631) 738-8300 and we’ll verify your specific benefits before your first appointment.

Do I need a referral to see a chiropractor with NYSHIP?

Generally, no. The Empire Plan allows you to see a participating provider without a referral. Requirements can vary by plan and group, so we recommend calling us so we can confirm your coverage details before you come in.

What will I pay per visit with NYSHIP?

When you see an MPN network provider, you pay your plan’s copayment for that visit — nothing more for covered services. Copayment amounts vary by plan year and bargaining unit. We verify your exact amount before your first appointment so there are no surprises.

What happens if I see a chiropractor who isn't in the MPN network?

You’ll pay significantly more. Non-network care under the Managed Physical Medicine Program is subject to an annual deductible and coinsurance, and you’ll typically need to submit your own claim forms. Confirming that a provider is an MPN network provider — not just that they accept UnitedHealthcare — is the most important question to ask.

Does NYSHIP cover physical therapy too?

Yes. Chiropractic treatment, physical therapy, and occupational therapy are all covered under the same Managed Physical Medicine Program. Because we provide both chiropractic care and physical therapy in one office, you can use both benefits without a separate referral to an outside facility.

How many chiropractic visits does NYSHIP cover?

Coverage is based on medical necessity rather than a fixed visit count, and specifics can vary by plan. We’ll review your benefits with you and build a treatment plan that fits your coverage. You can also call The Empire Plan directly at 1-877-7-NYSHIP (1-877-769-7447) for details on your plan.

Do you accept NYSHIP for retirees?

Yes. We treat active state employees, retirees continuing NYSHIP coverage, and covered dependents.
